Angel Trumpets….so Beautiful!
May is the month of my birthday and my husband always buys me plants for the garden, usually flowers as he know how much I love them. Two years ago it was Angel Trumpets. He bought me one small plant that we planted in the garden. It produced this amazing beautiful purple flower. After the
flower died it produced this huge seed pod. It was dark green with veins running through it and the size of a walnut. After it was dried, I cracked it open, inside was a handful of brown seeds.
I saved them and planted them last year. I was able to get 6 or 7 plants to come up and grow. I gave 3 of them to a very good friend of mine as she fell
in love with them as I did. She told me her’s put out double flowers….hmm, I thought, as mine only put out a single flower. After they died and started to produce the seed balls it was late summer going into early fall I brought them inside. The seed ball continued to grow and after it had stopped I harvested them and let them dry. After they were dry, I broke them open and collected the seeds. This time I froze them in a small plastic jar hoping that I would get a better germination out of them.
I was surprised, I wound up with about 95% germination. The sad thing was I didn’t realize I had used a potting soil that contained fertilizer in it and they all keeled over before they put out their first true leaves. I was heart broken
because I had used almost all of my seeds.
My husband felt so bad for me that he took me to the place that they have angel trumpets and he bought me 3 different plants. And these are yellow, purple, and pink. I can hardly wait till they start to flower! I’ll take some pictures of them when they do.

Thank you your for your comments Collector,
I have also heard that dish soap works well….I’ve heard that using Dawn Dish Soap works the best and that you can use it on all of your plants. A diluted mixture of soap and water in a spray bottle, then just mist your plants. If you don’t have any results with that then you could also try an insecticide. I haven’t used the dish soap on mine, there is something eating my leaves, I don’t know what as it happens at night. I have been using an insecticide it seems to help, but I have had to apply several times as it’s been raining here a lot and I think it washes it away.
I hope you can find something that works for you. If your like me I just love my flowers, and the Angel Trumpets are some of my favorites…..they are so beautiful!
If you find anything that works well for you, please post it here so we can share it with others! Thank you again for posting on my site.
